"For us democracy is a question of human dignity. And human dignity is political freedom, the right to freely express opinion and the right to be allowed to criticise and form opinions. Human dignity is the right to health, work, education and social welfare. Human dignity is the right and the practical possibility to shape the future with others. These rights, the rights of democracy, are not reserved for a select group within society, they are the rights of all the people."
Left-Social Democracy, also clipped with Left SocDem, is the left-wing version of
social democracy which shows support for
trade protectionism (sometimes),
Left-Wing Populism (usually), a mixed market economy, and
strong government intervention in the economy. These views are held by social democrats who adhere to
Keynesian economics of post-WW2 social democrats. What differs left-social democrats from
transitional social democrats is that not all left-social democrats want to transition out of a capitalist framework, but all classical social democrats would be left-social democrats. But most Left-Social Democrats support some level of
Workplace Democracy whether it is implemented partially under a capitalist organization or completely under a market socialist organization of the economy. While still usually being against
Communism.
Left Social Democrats came to power after the end of the second world war and the restructuring of Europe's economy. They favored nationalization and massive government spending in order to create and ensure jobs for all while protecting the vulnerable.
Overview
[edit]Left-Social Democracy is a form of
Social Democracy that takes a far more leftist or socialist view of politics and the economy. While they still operate under the principles
Liberal Democracy this is more out of necessity than geniune desire as many share opinions, and are often difficult to distinguish from,
democratic socialists as they will both often call themselves socialists and take positions which are to the left of public opinion. One historical difference was that left-social democrats used to be more moderate on nationalisation (of industry) in order to have more money for defence or improving public services. While democratic socialists supported blanket nationalisation regardless of the state of the economy or the treasury. However in most places this debate is mostly dead and it can be quite hard telling the difference between democratic socialists and left-social democrats, generally "demsocs" will be more populistic and anti establishment, perhaps finding it difficult to work with more centrist/right wing elements while left-social democrats are more open to compromise and uniting to deliver positive results.

Beliefs and Values
[edit]Left-Social Democracy believes in a large universal welfare state that ensures all people have access to quality healthcare, education and housing without regards to their employment status or wealth. Left-Social Democracy is also in favour of
extending state control and oversight over the market in order to make it more resilient to shock, guarantee full employment and generate wealth for the government. Left-Social Democrats also favour
protectionist trade policies in order to bring back our jobs, as well as supporting the
unionisation of these jobs which raise wages for workers. They believe that globalisation is a scheme to weaken workers and trade unions to enrich capitalists not out of hatred for foreigners, many left-social democrats would support a
"liberal" immigration system and the
EU principle of free movement despite the allegations that immigrants lower wages and weaken trade unions.
Left-Social Democracy values the same ideals of
Social Democracy, those being;
Equality before the law and in economies so that everyone has the same opportunities to succeed,
social and legal justice to protect and assist victims of crimes but also those groups that have been previously trodden on throughout history such as LGBT and ethnic minorities,
freedom so that the state and society did not interfere in an individual's life arbitrarily or unnecessarily, and solidarity which means sacrificing personal gains in order to support everyone which means you will support your neighbour while they support you.
