Neoskibidism

Neoskibidism is a label describing the political beliefs of the Twitch streamer Olesha (pronounced uh-LYO-sha). The term "Neoskibidism" is ironic and was coined by Olesha presumably to mock online extremists, given his preference for liberalism and moderation. Later he started using it to half-jokingly refer to his own political views.

Neoskibidism is anti-authoritarian, socially progressive, and generally overlaps with American liberal mainstream.

History

Olesha's political beliefs have been forming and developing since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Beliefs

Neoskibidists uphold the liberal democratic political framework and despise all sorts of populist and anti-democratic extremism, as well as aggression of illiberal nations against democratic ones. Neoskibidism also places a lot of importance on propaganda techniques and media manipulation, such as the right-wing pipeline. It argues that domestic and foreign extremists relentlessly try to shift the Overton window towards their agenda and that all attempts to normalize extremism must be detected, exposed and fought against.

Personality

Olesha is primarily a gaming streamer, but also has a weekly section about world politics. He does not pretend to be an all-knowing expert, but loves fact-checking, reading investigative pieces and researching topics related to political science, sometimes going down rabbit holes, and hates misinformation. He hates when people are even slightly unserious or dismissive about politics, and if you are, he will harshly tell you off at best or go on an exasperated angry rant at worst, depending on the mood. He is tired of explaining the same things to his viewers over and over again and regularly purges his Twitch chat of fascists. He also holds a special disdain for bothsiders and fence-sitters who can't pick a side in conflicts he himself considers morally clear-cut.
