Literatism constitutes the belief in the inherent worth of literature and literacy, not only for the individual, but for society at large.

This belief can manifest in multiple ways. One of the most overt political systems of Literatism was the political power of scribes in certain ancient and medieval societies. In a more philosophical way, the word "Literatism" may describe a belief in the power of the written word, for example, the belief that the written word is an effective way to transport a person's empirical gains onto other people.
