Catism is a broad umbrella term for politics related to benefitting cats in some way or another. There are multiple examples in history of cats and politics intermingling. Catist policies can reach from cat worship, mandatory cat ownership, catocracy (rule of cats), to just special animal rights for cats.
History
[edit]The first signs of Catist sentiment are over 10,000 years old. Cats have generally enjoyed a rather high status across all kinds of human societies, for being amazing pest controllers, as well as being very cute. The most well-known real-world practice of Catism is in
ancient Egypt, where cat worship was upheld by the government and customary among the people, cats were given special rights, and cats were buried in sacred repositories in the sacred city of Bubastis. Killing cats was a capital offense, punishable by death. There was also the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet, who bore the head of a cat, and was the goddess of protection, cats, fertility, childbirth, domesticity, and women's secrets.
There have also been societies that were less fond of cats. For example, negative superstitions about black cats containing bad omens or even being demonic agents, just as with many other black animals, has been seen within many human societies. This was especially prevalent during Medieval Europe, where cats as a whole were at one point labeled as agents of the devil by the Catholic Church, and even regularly tortured and killed for sport, such as in 16th-century France.
Personality and Behavior
[edit]Catism is a usually chill and relaxed ideology. When they're comfortable they purrs and wiggles their tail. They love to be petted by other ideologies and is usually lying around sleeping or relaxing, but sometimes gets curious and explores their environment. They like to drink milk and eat fish and mice. They're also very playful and likes to play with other Catist variations, or play with a string ball alone.
